SKATE FOR SURINAME

Initiator & Creative

(2025-Present)

Brief: There is no proper skatepark in Paramaribo, Suriname. The Netherlands has nearly 700. The goal was to raise awareness and funds to build a second one and do it through culture, community and design.

Challenge: Starting an initiative from scratch with no institutional budget. Building credibility, finding the right partners, and making sure the project felt authentic to both the Rotterdam and Surinamese communities, not like charity, but like culture.

Approach: Brought the idea to the Patta Foundation and built the project together. Took a part of ownership of the creative direction: concept, visual identity, merchandise design and event production. Organised a donation-based fundraiser at SkateCafé Amsterdam with an auction, Cash for Tricks sessions and a full community day. Also developed a full film treatment for the short documentary that will tell this story on screen.

Result: Successful first event with community and press coverage. Merchandise sold. Funds raised toward building the skatepark in Paramaribo. Featured in Patta, Flatspot Magazine and Man From Uncle. The project is ongoing, this is just the beginning.

FIRST EVENT

Together with the Patta Foundation, we organised a fundraiser at SkateCafé in Amsterdam. Donation-based, with an auction, Cash for Tricks sessions and a full community day.

All proceeds go towards building a skatepark in Paramaribo.

Alongside the organising, I was responsible for the merchandise of the project and making sure the story had a face to go with it.I’m proud of what we built together. Not just as a designer, but as a person and for the love of skate-culture.
